At CIDIG, we connect people, ideas, and institutions to advance inclusive governance and sustainable development. Rooted in Sri Lanka's south, we promote justice, diversity, and peace — turning collaboration into lasting change for a fairer, more resilient world.
Who We Are
The Centre for International Development and Inclusive Governance (CIDIG) is a non-profit, non-partisan national non-government organization based in Hambantota, Sri Lanka.
Founded by professionals and activists from international development, cultural expertise, education, law, gender equality, and civil society, CIDIG was created to foster inclusion, strengthen governance, and empower communities across all regions and identities.
We believe true progress happens when everyone — regardless of ethnicity, gender, religion, or ability — has the opportunity to participate and lead.
Our Vision
To build a just, inclusive, and peaceful society where every individual can thrive, participate, and contribute to sustainable national and global development.
Our Mission
To empower and connect communities through inclusive governance, education, and participatory development — promoting social justice, cultural diversity, and human dignity while bridging local aspirations with global progress.
What Guides Us
Every voice matters, every person belongs.
Fairness and equity in all our actions.
Celebrating pluralism as a source of strength.
Promoting dialogue, protection, and dignity for all.
Fostering community-led solutions and creativity.
Acting with transparency and integrity.
What We Do
We operate at the intersection of governance, education, peacebuilding, gender equality, environmental protection, cultural planning, and sustainable community development.
Building Transparent, Accountable, and Participatory Systems
CIDIG works to strengthen democratic governance by promoting citizen participation, institutional accountability, and responsive leadership. We facilitate dialogues, training programs, and consultative platforms that bridge the gap between citizens and state institutions — nurturing a governance culture rooted in transparency, fairness, and shared responsibility.
Empowering Minds, Transforming Futures
Education is central to inclusive development. CIDIG collaborates with schools, universities, and training institutes to deliver programs in leadership, communication, peace education, and civic engagement. Our initiatives focus on digital literacy, employability, and non-formal learning for youth and women — fostering a generation of informed, confident citizens ready to lead their communities.
Strengthening Coexistence Through Dialogue and Empathy
CIDIG believes peace is more than the absence of conflict — it is the active presence of justice, respect, and cooperation. We conduct community-based peace education, Non-Violent Communication (NVC) training, and intercultural exchange programs that help individuals navigate differences constructively. Our goal is to ensure diversity remains a bridge — not a barrier — to sustainable peace.
Preserving Heritage, Protecting Nature
CIDIG works with international, national, and local experts to promote sustainable tourism, heritage conservation, and environmental stewardship. We support cultural tourism initiatives that create livelihoods while protecting traditions and ecosystems, and advocate for responsible policies through youth-led projects in waste management, biodiversity protection, and eco-friendly innovation.
Championing Dignity, Equity, and Opportunity for All
CIDIG is deeply committed to advancing human rights, gender equality, and disability rights. Our programs support women's leadership, gender-based violence prevention, and advocacy for equal representation. We also protect the rights of youth, differently-abled people, and LGBTQI individuals through awareness, protection, and policy change — ensuring every person can live free from discrimination and exclusion.
Knowledge for Action and Impact
CIDIG offers evidence-based research, capacity building, and technical consultancy to strengthen governance, education, and social development initiatives. Our multidisciplinary team provides tailored solutions including baseline surveys, program evaluations, and training in conflict resolution, strategic communication, cultural planning, and participatory development — contributing to more effective policies and resilient communities.
Connecting Hearts and Hands for Change
CIDIG mobilizes local and international volunteers to work alongside communities in education, health, and social development. Our volunteer programs connect people from diverse backgrounds, enabling shared experiences that strengthen empathy and cross-cultural understanding. From mentoring youth to supporting grassroots projects, volunteers play an essential role in advancing CIDIG's mission — transforming compassion into collective action and building stronger, more connected communities.
Collaboration
At CIDIG, sustainable progress is built on collaboration. From the very beginning, partnership has been at the heart of our mission — connecting communities, institutions, and ideas to advance inclusive development and governance across Sri Lanka and beyond. We work hand-in-hand with organizations that share our values of equality, peace, and justice.
